Debbie Hughes-Armstrong I offer lessons to beginners through to advanced level students from my home-based studio in Kelowna. When I teach, I strive to develop musicality in all students and give them a solid technical foundation so they can achieve freedom of musical expression.

I think it is important to work out an individual program for each student. Finding the right teacher is an important decision because unless there is a bond between teacher and student, there will be little progress.

Each student is offered performance opportunities during the course. I help prepare my students for local and national festivals and competitions, R.C.M examinations, band and school orchestra and entrance exams for colleges or universities effectively preparing interested students for a musical career.

Students can begin learning the flute around 7-10 years old; however, the standard flute is too big for them. In this case I recommend a flute with a curved head-joint (later the child moves to a normal size).
